Are you ready to rock the holiday party circuit in skintight leather pants, a ripped t-shirt, dusty jean jacket, and motorcycle boots? Just in time for Christmas, Swedish retail-a-saurus H&M has announced that it will release a capsule collection of gritty-cool threads inspired by the upcoming gritty-cool, Sweden-set film, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, making it perfectly OK to brood over the egg nog tureen like an ace hacker with a preference for asymmetrical haircuts. The American version of the film stars Rooney Mara, who endured a 10-inch hair chop, ink-black dye job, and multiple piercings in order to become the iconic Lisbeth Salander character. The film's costume designer, Trish Summerville, further transformed the actress by dressing her in loose-knit separates like drapey tanks, shrunken leather jackets, and distressed denim, and according to WWD, all of these looks have gone into the making of the H&M collection (also designed by Summerville). From what we can tell thus far, every piece is covetable and perfect for layering into your existing wardrobe, whether you're already rocking an edgy look or not.
Debuting on November 28 at Parisian temple of cool, Colette, and then in 180 H&M stores nationwide on December 14, the collection includes everything from a leather jacket ($199) and worn lace-up boots ($59.95) to swirly, tribal earrings ($3.95) that look identical to the ones Mara wears in the film. We love that they also included ribbed-knee, leath-AH motocross pants (which are so huge for fall) and basic hoodies—both are staples that are perfect for layering in winter and dressing up or down. Summerville tells WWD, “We put a lot of aged-in washes and finishes, which goes along the lines of the Salander character … it was taking that kind of concept and giving it more of a realistic fashion feel.” They even included an American/Swedish flag hybrid t-shirt that debuted on the pages of W in a first-look spread of Mara (in-character) wearing it with a tutu. Even though the film's tagline is, "The Feel Bad Movie This Christmas," we think this collection is all about feeling GOOD about ramping up our wardrobes with awesome pieces like a cropped burgundy jacket. But the Die Antwoord-style haircut? That's, um, pending…
